An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was involved in a shooting in Ontario that left one person dead, officials said.

ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) – An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was involved in a shooting that left one person dead in Ontario Thursday night, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of ​​Euclid Avenue and 6th Street around 8:30 p.m., said Corporal Eliseo Guerrero of the Ontario Police.

Two men were found at the scene – an off-duty LAPD officer and a person with an apparent gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, Guerrero said.

The off-duty LAPD officer was taken to a hospital in stable condition with unspecified injuries.

It is unclear what led to the shooting and whether the officer was shot. A witness said the incident may have started as an argument over a minor traffic accident.

Further information was not initially available.

The officer is cooperating with the investigation, Guerrero said.
