Porsche accident in Pune: JJB judge released teenager on bail for not wearing helmet while driving a two-wheeler

Amid the outrage over the Pune Porsche case, a member of the juvenile court, Dr LN Danwade, who granted bail to the 17-year-old, came under severe scrutiny on social media for not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler. In videos widely shared on social media, Danwade, who granted bail to the teenager after making him write an essay, was seen running away without answering questions from a group of reporters surrounding him.

Social media users commented on the video, pointing out that the JJB member was not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler. “No problem. The traffic cops will tell him to write an essay on the joys of riding a scooter without a helmet,” wrote one user.

Another user tagged Pune Police and Pune Traffic Police and wrote, “I expect you to notice this scooter rider without a helmet and act as per traffic rules. There should be no difference when it comes to enforcing the law.”

Danwade had come under criticism for allowing the 17-year-old, who had drunkenly driven his Porsche into two IT experts on bicycles and killed them, to get away without severe punishment.

The committee had asked the teenager to work at the Yerawada traffic police station for 15 days, write an essay on the accident, undergo medical treatment to stop drinking and undergo psychiatric counselling.

However, the JJB board lifted the bail order and later sent the 17-year-old home to an observation center until June 5.
