Suspect in custody after hour-long standoff with RV in Walmart parking lot in Reno

A suspect is in custody after an hours-long standoff in an RV in the parking lot of Walmart and Sam’s Club in Reno Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to a domestic disturbance in the parking lot on Kietzke Lane and later learned that the suspect had several outstanding warrants.

The man barricaded himself in the RV and refused to come out for several hours. The Reno Police Department SWAT team was eventually able to enter the RV and the man surrendered without further incident. At least one bolt of lightning struck the RV before the man got out.

After exiting the RV, the man was quickly loaded into an ambulance. Once they check on him, they will book him into the Washoe County Jail, according to police.

Authorities said none of the officers were injured and the suspect has not been identified.

Both Walmart and Sam’s Club were closed for several hours. They are open again.
