Man attacked and stabbed in Towson parking garage

A Towson Town Center customer was attacked and stabbed as he was leaving the mall, police said. Baltimore County police said officers were called to a fight in progress in the 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said witnesses told officers a group of about 10 to 12 boys and girls attacked and stabbed an adult victim. A witness took the victim to the hospital, where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The victim told officers the incident began at the mall when the attackers tried to take his belongings and followed him into the parking garage, where they attacked him in the stairwell, police said. Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, told 11 News that while incidents involving juveniles have occurred at the mall and throughout Towson, business owners have stepped up efforts to curb violence, thefts and assaults. “Incidents like this break our community’s heart. Towson is such a great, safe place. We are very, very thankful that the man was treated and released,” Hafford told 11 News.Hafford said 90% of businesses in Towson have security cameras and work with police, and the mall spends more than a million dollars a year on security and protection. She called it a community crime prevention and justice effort.”We know that when an incident happens here in Towson, it’s all of our problems,” Hafford told 11 News. “These people will be caught and prosecuted. I can guarantee you that.”Police said the department’s summer crime plan has been in effect since Memorial Day weekend, saying, “The department has identified crime patterns and effective countermeasures for each precinct using a data-driven approach. During the summer, the effectiveness of the plan will be evaluated.” Investigators are asking residents and businesses who may have video of the incident to call them at 410-307-2020. Visitors and residents should expect an increased police presence in the Towson area, police said.
