Name of officer involved in shooting released

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Eau Claire Police Department (ECPD) is now releasing the name of the officer involved in the shooting Friday evening, March 2.and Street. According to a press release, the officer is Ariana Down Larson, who has been with the department for three years. As we reported yesterday, 53-year-old Thomas Burback is facing three charges, including failure to comply with an officer’s orders following the incident Friday night.

Police said they responded to a disturbance on 2.and Street, Down Larson saw Burback pointing a revolver at a balcony and fired her weapon. It is not clear if Burback was shot. The ECPD referred those questions to the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is investigating the incident, per Department policy.

We are still awaiting a response from the Department of Justice. Officer Down Larson has been placed on administrative duties pending a full review of the investigation.
