Uttara Kannada Cooperation Department official suspended for dereliction of duty

The state government has suspended an official of the Ministry of Cooperation for dereliction of duty in Uttara Kannada.

According to the orders issued on Tuesday, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies Manjunath Singh was suspended pending further investigation.

An initial investigation by Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajput revealed that Mr Singh had not performed his duties properly.

Mr Singh is now facing charges for illegally issuing orders to cancel the elections to The Totgars Cooperative Sale Society Limited, an agricultural cooperative that deals in areca nut and other horticultural products.

On August 20, 2023, elections to the company were held and a new governing body was elected. However, on May 24 of the same year, Mr. Singh issued an order cancelling the election on the grounds that some rules had been violated.

He also appointed MH Nayk, an official of the Ministry of Education, as the administrative officer. But this order was revoked by the senior officials of the Ministry of Cooperation. The investigation revealed at first glance Evidence that Mr Singh violated several rules in issuing his orders.
