Depraved rapist ‘recruited’ women as sex workers before filming his vile attacks with secret pen cameras

A depraved rapist “recruited” women as sex workers before filming his vicious attacks on them with secret cameras hidden in pens.

Nicholas Moxham has raped and sexually abused women on multiple occasions, sometimes even when they were unconscious. When police raided his home in August 2021, a woman was found “pale and malnourished” under a duvet on his living room floor.

When police arrived, he threw a hard drive out of his bedroom window in a desperate attempt to dispose of evidence. Officers subsequently found hard drives, storage devices and peephole cameras.

The investigation into Moxham began in June 2020 when witnesses reported seeing someone named “Nick” hanging around homeless shelters and in the company of sex workers.

Over time, police said, he recruited six women as sex workers and arranged further meetings with them at his home and at an address in Longsight.

He secretly filmed many of these encounters with special equipment, including cameras that he hid in pens. Several videos showed him raping or sexually abusing his victims.

Moxham, of Briarfield Road, Heaton Chapel, was found guilty of a total of 32 counts for a range of offences following a five-week trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

These include six counts of rape, six counts of controlling prostitution for profit, thirteen counts of voyeurism, three counts of forced or compulsory labour, three counts of assault by penetration and one count of attempted rape. He will be sentenced in July.

Detective Sergeant Lee Attenborough described the case as “one of the most horrific and disturbing” GMP officers have ever dealt with.

“Moxham is a controlling and predatory sex offender who thought he was untouchable, who denied his horrific crimes until the end and forced his victims to endure the ordeal of a trial,” he said.

“He showed no regard for his victims, some of whom were not even aware they were being targeted due to the calculated and covert methods he used to exploit his victims. His crimes were well planned and continued while he was under investigation. He even boasted to one of his victims that he was too smart for the police.

According to police, Moxham tried to throw hard drives out of the window when he was arrested

“His victims were extremely brave and I can only thank them for coming forward to give evidence against Moxham. I know it was not easy but thanks to their brave actions, Moxham is no longer on the streets and will now face a significant amount of time behind bars.

“I know it can be incredibly difficult and traumatic to report crimes like this, but we would urge anyone who has suffered violence or controlling behaviour of any kind to come forward. If anyone has been affected by this case or believes they have been a victim of violence, we have specialist officers who can help.
