Mother arrested and released after death of her toddler in Palmdale, charged with aiding and abetting

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) – After a father was arrested in connection with the death of his young son, who was found unconscious in a Palmdale park, the child’s mother was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime, according to jail records.

Both suspects were subsequently released from custody.

Amanda Flores, 30, was arrested on a felony charge on May 25 and released four days later, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Online records showed the reason for her release was that there were insufficient grounds to file criminal charges.

Jail records show that Schaffer Grindstaff, 29, was also released from jail Monday night because there were insufficient grounds to file criminal charges.

He was arrested after his son, Cameron Flores, was found unconscious in Melville J. Courson Park in Palmdale last week. Investigators said the boy’s father gave some conflicting statements when questioned.

At the time, Grindstaff told officers his son was having a medical emergency. He was later arrested for aiding and abetting the concealment of a crime and child endangerment.

The circumstances of the child’s death remain under investigation. An official cause of death has not yet been announced by the coroner.
