3 men killed in Georgia, including a young father, after drunk driver ran into them on their way home from work – WSB-TV Channel 2

COMER, Georgia – Three men were killed on their way home from work when a drunk driver collided with them outside Athens.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, the accident occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening in Monroe County.

A Camry attempting to turn right from Madico Drive was struck by a Ford pickup truck. The 22-year-old driver was charged with drunken driving, first-degree vehicular manslaughter and failure to yield the right of way. He was also injured in the crash and has not been identified or taken to jail, according to the Banner-Herald.

All three men killed were in the back seat of the Camry. They were identified by family members as Thai Htoo, 19, Saw Ah, 19, and Gler Taw, 35. Family members said on a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs that the men were on their way home to work when they were killed.

Taw was the father of a nine-month-old daughter.

“The other two were beloved sons and friends to many in the community,” the brother of one victim wrote on GoFundMe. “They are all followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Now they watch us grieving from heaven.”

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $12,000.

A second GoFundMe campaign was set up through the New Neighbors Network, an organization that helps refugees and immigrants navigate life in America.
