1 dead after police-involved shooting in south Tulsa apartment complex | News

TULSA, Okla. — An armed suspect was shot and killed by Lighthorse police in an apartment complex in south Tulsa on Thursday morning.

According to police, Tulsa police were called around 1 a.m. Thursday for a domestic incident at the Somerset Apartments near the corner of 61st Street and Mingo.

According to police, a man attacked a woman and her child. After the victims escaped, the suspect pointed a gun at neighbors who intervened.

Tulsa police were called, who then called Lighthorse police after realizing that the suspect and victims were Native American.

Lighthorse police arrived and attempted to lure the suspect out. The SWAT team was called while police waited for a search warrant.

Shortly before 5 a.m., police received a search warrant and began clearing the apartment complex.

According to police, around 5:30 a.m., an officer climbed a ladder to break a window and get closer to the suspect, who then pointed a gun at the officer. A shootout ensued, during which one officer was knocked off the ladder and another was hit in the shoulder.

According to Lighthorse police, the suspect was shot multiple times and died.

The officers and victims were treated and are expected to be OK, police said.
