‘Depraved’ rapist filmed attacks on unconscious women

A man who secretly filmed himself raping unconscious women has been found guilty of a string of “depraved and heinous” crimes, including prostitution and slavery.

Nicholas Moxham, of Heaton Chapel in Stockport, recruited women as sex workers in 2020 after “loitering in homeless shelters”, police said.

The 52-year-old secretly filmed himself and others during rape and sexual assault trials before he was arrested in 2021.

After a five-week trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Moxham was found guilty of a total of 32 counts for a range of offences.

These included six cases of rape, one of attempted rape, six cases of controlling prostitution for profit and one case of forced or compulsory labour.

He was also found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and 13 counts of voyeurism.

Moxham was arrested after witnesses reported that a man was seen with sex workers and “loitering near homeless shelters” in 2020.

Greater Manchester Police said he recruited six women and arranged meetings with others at his home and another property in Longsight, Manchester.

He used secret peephole cameras, hidden in pens for example, to film the women and stored the recordings. He later tried to destroy evidence by throwing a hard drive out of the bedroom window when the police entered his house.

Footage seized after police raided Moxham’s Stockport home in August 2021 shows him raping or sexually assaulting women, sometimes while they are unconscious.

During the search, a “pale and malnourished” woman was also found in his living room. “Immediate protective measures” were taken to protect her, police said.

Det. Sgt. Lee Attenborough said the case was “one of the most horrific and disturbing” police officers have ever dealt with.

Moxham is a “controlling and predatory sex offender,” he said, adding that some of his victims “will not even know they have been targeted” because of his “calculated and covert methods.”

“His crimes were well planned and he continued them while he was under investigation. He even boasted to one of his victims that he was too smart for the police.”

The verdict is scheduled for June 12.
