Shots fired after police in Wisconsin were confronted by a man who attacked an officer

BELOIT, Wis. (WFRV) – Police in southern Wisconsin found themselves in a particularly dangerous situation when shots were fired during a confrontation with a man who was aggressively attacking an officer.

According to Beloit Police, officers responded to a call about an unwanted person in the 800 block of Oak Street in the city of Beloit around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.


Upon arrival, officers were confronted by the man, who police say aggressively attacked one of the officers. During the altercation, a firearm was fired. Neither the officers nor the suspect sustained any injuries. The man was taken into custody without further incident.

“We commend our officers for their quick and professional response to a potentially dangerous situation, ensuring the safety of everyone involved,” said Beloit Police Chief Andre Sayles. “This incident reminds us of the unpredictable nature of police work and the courage our officers demonstrate every day.”

The incident remains under investigation and no further details have been released.
