UPDATE: Beloit Police: Man attacked her in “aggressive” altercation in which shots were fired

According to Beloit police, no one was injured when a man attacked police officers and fired a gun on Wednesday afternoon.

Police did not name a man they described as a “suspect” who police say aggressively attacked officers after they responded to reports of an unwanted person in the 800 block of Oak Street.

Police cordoned off an area of ​​the block on the west side for about an hour between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

In a social media post, police said they had arrested the man who attacked officers.

No one was physically injured, but police say someone fired a gun during the altercation. As of Wednesday evening, police had not released any further details about the shooting or provided any further information about the attack or what prompted it.

According to Rock County Emergency Services, a 911 call came in shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday about an unwanted person.

A retired WCLO news reporter who lives in the area observed several Beloit police and fire department vehicles at the scene. A home in the 800 block of Oak Street was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape, and an ambulance was seen leaving the area with a patient in the back seat.

WCLO News emailed Police Chief Andre Sayles asking for more information about the incident and the person loaded into an ambulance. He initially responded, “Medical emergency. An officer used force.”

In a statement Wednesday evening, Beloit police said the incident was under investigation and police were “determined” Transparency throughout the process. Further details will be announced as they become available.”
