Hong Kong man dies, brother injured when motorcycle crashes into street railing in New Territories

A Hong Kong motorcyclist has died and his younger brother was injured when their motorcycle crashed into a roadside railing in the New Territories.

The 33-year-old man was riding on Tai Tong Shan Road in Yuen Long with his 25-year-old brother on the pillion seat when he crashed at around 00:27 on Thursday.

“Initial investigations revealed that the driver lost control of his motorcycle while trying to overtake a car in front of him,” said a source familiar with the case.

The insider added that the two brothers fell from their Kawasaki motorcycle when it hit a railing.

According to police, the motorcyclist suffered multiple injuries and lost consciousness. He was taken to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long, where he was pronounced dead at around 1:09am.

His younger brother suffered arm and leg injuries and was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.

The motorcycle was badly damaged and part of the railing was torn down.

As part of the investigation, the police secured evidence from the driver.

Officers from the New Territories North Traffic Police are investigating and are asking witnesses and anyone with information to contact police on 3661 3800.

According to official figures, 33 people died in 30 road accidents across the city in the first four months of this year. In the whole of last year, 96 people died in 96 fatal accidents.
