Philadelphia hit-and-run: Man dies crossing street after being struck by vehicle on Torresdale Avenue in Juniata Park

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man has died after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Philadelphia’s Juniata Park neighborhood.

The police are now looking for the driver who fled after the fatal accident.

It happened just before midnight Wednesday along Torresdale Avenue near Hunting Park Avenue.

According to police, the victim was only identified as a 44-year-old man.

Witnesses told police that the man was crossing Torresdale Avenue in the middle of the street when he was struck by a small SUV traveling eastbound.

When officers arrived, they found the man lying unconscious on the street.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses described the striking vehicle as a multi-colored – mainly blue – small SUV, possibly a Honda CRV.

According to police, work also appears to have been done on the vehicle.

“There are several pieces of the crashed vehicle at the scene,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. “One major piece appears to be from the front bumper of the crashed vehicle, but there are several other car parts at the scene. Hopefully these car parts can help us identify the crashed vehicle.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
