Back to full strength after heart attack

Darryl Strawberryis back to 100 percent fit — and he couldn’t be happier about it … and revealed TMZ Sports this week he almost died of a heart attack he suffered in March.

The Mets legend told us about the medical shock he suffered while in New York… and said his heart was in such bad shape at the time of the emergency that doctors couldn’t believe he had survived.

“My heart was only beating at 40 percent,” said Strawberry, who described the heart attack as “massive.” “So there was a lot going on. There wasn’t a lot of blood flowing through my heart at that point.”

Fortunately, the eight-time All-Star said his wife rushed him to the hospital … and paramedics were able to treat him before things got serious.

Now he says he’s grateful to have made a full recovery… and he’s warning others to take him as a cautionary tale.

“We only have one chance in this life,” he said, “so make the most of it.”

Strawberry will surely enjoy being healthy this weekend … as the Mets will retire his jersey number on Saturday before their game against the Diamondbacks at Citi Field.
