ORLEANS IS PRETTY COOL. WDSU FIRST WARNING WEATHER: A WEATHER IMPACT DAY UNTIL TONIGHT. WE HAVE SOME PRETTY SEVERE STORMS. YOU ACTUALLY SEE ONE OF THE STORMS THAT HAS DEVELOPED IN THE LAST 20 AND 30 MINUTES. OVER THE WEST BANK. I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU THE RADAR RIGHT NOW. WE STILL HAVE THE WORST STORMS THAT WERE ON THE NORTH SHORE IN THE AFTERNOON. IT ALL STARTED WITH A STORM OVER NEW ORLEANS EAST AMITE SHOIGU AND NEAR GENTILLY. BUT NOW WE HAVE REALLY SEVERE STORMS NEAR BOGALUSA. AND WHAT ELSE IS THIS? We have special weather advisories indicating very gusty winds around here right now. From Poplarville to Bogalusa, they could be between 30 and 40 miles per hour. Now near Franklinton and even up to Tangipahoa Parish. These storms are bringing very heavy rain, on the order of two, three, four and five inches per hour. The rates are coming down. How much rain have we gotten already? Some estimates are close to four inches in parts of Pearl River County, and maybe between 2.5 and almost three inches of rain in parts of Washington Parish, just north of Franklin. THESE STORMS ARE TO BEWARE OF. THERE WERE ONCE SOME PREVIOUS WARNINGS IN THE FORM OF SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES. NOW THERE’S NOTHING HERE, BUT THERE MAY STILL BE SOME GUSTY WINDS. SO PONCHATOULA, HAMMOND, INDEPENDENCE, THE STORMS. THEY ARE ALREADY IN INDEPENDENCE AND YOU CAN SEE THEY’RE ON THE WAY TO HAMMOND AND PONCHATOULA BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, MAYBE IN 10 TO 15 TO 20 MINUTES. THE STORM I MENTIONED EARLIER JUST DEVELOPED IN NEW ORLEANS EAST AND IT’S ON IT AGAIN NOW WHERE THERE IS STILL OFFICIALLY A FLOOD WARNING FOR THE NEXT 30 MINUTES. THAT’S GOING TO BRING MORE RAIN WHERE WE ALREADY HAD ESTIMATES OF ALMOST THREE INCHES OF RAIN. THEY HAD TO GO TO ALGIERS, TERRYTOWN, ACROSS THE RIVER AND ACROSS POYDRAS. WE HAVE THESE STORMS, THEY ARE WEAKENING ON THE WEST SIDE OF LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN, BUT THERE ARE GUSTY WINDS. YOU HAVE TO WATCH OUT, THAT’S GOING TO BE ALONG THE DAM. THIS FORECAST DOESN’T SHOW MANY OF THE STORMS ON THE WEST BANK, BUT IT DOES MAKE THOSE STORMS ON THE NORTH SHORE PRETTY WELL AFTER SUNSET. THEY’RE ALL OVER. WE HAD A GUST EARLIER ON THE FIRST ROUND OF STORMS. THE 61 ON THE LAKEFRONT. AND THERE IS A VERY SMALL RISK THAT THESE STORMS MAY BRING OUT SOME STRONG WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH IN THE TIME. BUT BECAUSE OF THIS, THE WEATHER HAS COOLED THE AIR IN OTHER PLACES TO 70 TO 80 MILES. BUT OF COURSE THE HIGHER HUMIDITY MAKES IT FEEL A LOT HOTTER. SO THIS ALL DUE TO THE STORMS THAT PASSED THROUGH YESTERDAY AND LEFT A WEAK FRONT THAT MAYBE EXPANDED ACROSS THE AREA, BUT THESE ARE MORE SYSTEMS ROLLING UP OVER US. SEVERAL MILES INTO THE AIR. HEAT AND HUMIDITY OF THE DAY. THEY DEVELOP MORE STORM ACTIVITY. AND THAT WILL BE THE CASE UNTIL THURSDAY, UNTIL FRIDAY, UNTIL FRIDAY A REAL STORM SYSTEM COMES CLOSE. COULD INPUT A LITTLE MORE ENERGY TO THE ATMOSPHERE TO BRING UP THOSE SEVERE STORMS AGAIN WHERE WE ARE UNDER A LEVEL 1 RISK AT THIS TIME, THE RADAR IS ALIGNING WITH WHAT’S GOING ON AND STRONG STORMS ARE DEVELOPING. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THIS PARTICULAR WEATHER MESSAGE, THE STORMS WILL ALL BE PASSED. AS I JUST MENTIONED, TEMPERATURES WILL BE AFTER MIDNIGHT TOMORROW. WAKE UP AT 68 BOGALUSA, WE HAVE 75 HERE. IT’S A WARM AND HUMID DAY, BUT YOU’LL NEED RAIN GEAR AS WE REACH THE HOTTEST TIME OF THE DAY AT ABOUT THREE. SOUTH SHORE IS OUT TO HAVE A LOT OF IT TOMORROW. EVEN IN SAINT TAMMANY PARISH. BY SIX YOU CAN ALREADY SEE. HAVING RAIN GEAR, ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON, AND THEN PREPARING FOR A POSSIBLY WET EVENING RIDE IS KEY TO PREPARING FOR SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN TO BE POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE REACH ABOUT 90. IT FEELS MORE LIKE 100 TO BRING ENERGY TO THE ATMOSPHERE. WE’LL DO THAT AGAIN ON FRIDAY. THAT SHOWS SOME STORM POTENTIAL HERE OVERNIGHT. I think the chance is slim, but it’s possible the heat of the day could provide some greater storm potential here at 10:00, 3:00, and 6:00. But again, there could be a risk of a severe storm. We’re currently in a Threat Level 1 for the entire region, which is described as “minor gusty.” After very heavy rain and lightning, the biggest threat is light winds. So to me, it’s the light street flooding and the strong winds that really make this a weather impact day. Remember, we had a high of 90 degrees tonight. It feels more like 100 and more isolated storms are possible lasting through Saturday and continuing into Sunday before next week. I’ll lower the rain chance a bit. So it’s a pretty similar forecast with highs around 90 degrees every day and a heat index around 100 degrees. The chance of isolated storms is more likely throughout the weekend and
