This is probably one of the largest and most extensive theft cases in the region, according to the Howard County Police press release. The value of the tools is estimated at $3 to $5 million.

“Investigators believe the tools were stolen primarily from retail stores, businesses, vehicles, residential properties and construction sites in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania,” the release said. “The stolen tools were mostly kept in storage facilities in Howard County and investigators believe they were sold in a variety of locations and in a variety of ways.”

The police have so far identified more than 80 victims as part of the ongoing investigation, the press release states. No charges had been filed at the beginning of the month.
