Stafford man charged with drunk driving for eighth time after accident

A Stafford man who has seven previous drink-driving convictions has been charged with an eighth offense following a minor accident involving an ambulance on Tuesday night, police said.

Stafford Sheriff’s Major Shawn Kimmitz said Deputy SA Edwards responded to the area of ​​Warrenton and Poplar Road shortly before 9 p.m. for a report of a collision between a Fauquier County ambulance and a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Tahoe, who police said had an unrestrained 9-year-old child in the back seat, admitted to drinking beer before driving, and the deputy found four empty beer cans in the Tahoe. The deputy also learned that the driver had a previous drunken driving conviction and that he did not have a license because of it.

Homer Calvin Maxey, 68, was charged with drunk driving (third offense in ten years), endangering a child, driving without a license, driving while disqualified for drunk driving, and driving with an unbelted child in the vehicle.

Maxey was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The child was unharmed and released to a family member.
