Michigan judge shocked when man with revoked license joins Zoom call while driving

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (WJW) – A Michigan judge was at a loss for words when a man whose driver’s license had been revoked dialed into his virtual court hearing while driving in his car.

The hearing, held in Ann Arbor on May 15 and streamed live on YouTube, began with the defendants’ attorney informing Judge Cedric Simpson that her client, Corey Harris, would participate via Zoom call.

Harris, whose hearing was related to a driver’s license suspension, dialed into the call while conspicuously sitting behind the wheel, as can be seen in the video above.

“Mr. Harris, are you driving?” asked Judge Simpson.

“Actually, I’m driving to my doctor’s office,” Harris said. “Just give me a second, I’m parking.”

His lawyer then requested that the proceedings be postponed for up to four weeks.

After a long pause, Judge Simpson continued: “OK, maybe I’m not understanding something. It’s about driving without a license… and he was just driving and he didn’t have a license.”

“That is correct, Your Honor,” said Harris’s lawyer.

After another long pause, during which both the judge and the defendant appeared speechless, Judge Simpson continued, “I don’t even know why he would do that, so the defendant’s bail is revoked in this matter.”

“Oh my God,” Harris said.

Harris was ordered to turn himself in to the Washtenaw County Jail by 6 p.m. that evening.
