Candidates for Geneva Police Chief meet with the public

GENEVA, NY – The City of Geneva held interviews for the position of Police Chief on Wednesday as it seeks an experienced and proven leader for its law enforcement agency.

A town hall forum was held Wednesday where residents asked questions of three candidates for Geneva’s top police officer, including a Geneva Police Department lieutenant, a retired New York State police officer and the current Waterloo Police Chief.

Some excerpts from the interviews:

James Chechak, Waterloo Police Chief: “My leadership style – I like to be present, but not intrusive. I don’t like micromanaging, and people don’t like being micromanaged.”

James Francis McCormack, former police officer: “I am more than willing and able to do this job to the best of my ability if given the chance, and I will not disappoint you.”

Lt. Ron Eveland, Geneva Police Department: “I was always able to keep my composure in stressful situations, had clear and calm thoughts and a clear vision of what we needed to do to get the job done.”

This search comes after Matthew Colton resigned as chief earlier this month amid a city investigation into a personnel matter.

The forum was streamed live and can be viewed here.
