DPS investigates car crash with three deaths and hospitalizations

According to DPS, two male passengers from Mexico were ejected from the vehicle and the driver fled the scene.

VAL VERDE COUNTY, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation into a car crash that left three people dead and others hospitalized.

On May 28 at approximately 9:30 p.m., DPS officers were led on a pursuit after a driver failed to stop for a speeding violation on Recreational Road 2 north of Del Rio in Val Verde County.

According to DPS, the vehicle approached the Rough Canyon Recreation Area parking lot at “excessive speed” and misjudged a curve, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to roll over.

According to DPS, two male passengers from Mexico were ejected from the vehicle and the driver fled the scene.

The police performed resuscitation measures on the two men until the emergency services arrived on the scene, but both were pronounced dead due to head injuries.

One of the passengers from Mexico was taken to a hospital in San Antonio and three other passengers from Mexico were taken to Val Verde Hospital. One of the men later died in the hospital.

At around 5 a.m. on May 29, police found the driver and took him to a San Antonio hospital, where he remains in the custody of federal authorities, according to DPS.

DPS identified the driver as 21-year-old Asha Kisindja and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) said they will be filing federal charges in the case.
