News Alert: DNSFilter joins WeProtect Global Alliance to protect children online

Washington DC, May 29, 2024, PRNewswire – DNSFilter today announced that it has joined the WeProtect Global Alliance to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online.

This partnership will help advance WeProtect’s mission and work toward creating a safer online environment for children.

The WeProtect Global Alliance was created to provide a unified and comprehensive response to the widespread problem of child sexual abuse and exploitation online. It brings together partners from governments, nonprofits and the private sector to develop policies and solutions. Research by the Alliance found that the number of reported cases of abusive material increased by 87% between 2019 and 2023.

As a cybersecurity company, DNSFilter’s role goes beyond just protecting against malware and phishing; it also extends to protecting the physical and emotional safety of individuals. DNSFilter blocks the CSAM category permanently and without exception, underscoring the company’s commitment to protecting the safety of individuals affected by this content.

In the first quarter of 2024 alone, DNSFilter has already blocked nearly 1 million CSAM requests and is on track to block five times as much CSAM content this year as in 2023.

By joining the Alliance, DNSFilter is able to address this challenge on a larger scale and for its own customers, including larger organizations that want to further secure this area of the Internet.

Iain Drennan, Executive Director of WeProtect Global Alliance, said: “The rise in child sexual abuse and exploitation online is not an inevitable consequence of technological advances, but a preventable problem.

“Technology plays a key role in providing solutions to the problem and we are delighted that DNSFilter has joined the Alliance to share knowledge, collaborate and support others. DNSFilter joins over 300 other member organisations worldwide from government, civil society and the private sector – together we are a real force for change to protect children online worldwide.”

Ken Carnesi, CEO and co-founder of DNSFilter, said: “Blocking CSAM is an essential part of what we do at DNSFilter because online security goes beyond phishing and malware – it includes physical and emotional safety. Our goal is to protect people, not just the machines they use.

“We are very proud of our strong stance against CSAM and feel fortunate to partner with such an influential and passionate organization. We look forward to learning from their educational resources and meetings and translating that knowledge into more effective strategies to protect children.”
