Single-vehicle accident on Buck Creek Road claims the life of a road worker

Avon Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday on Buck Creek Road.

According to Avon Police Chief Greg Daly, a vehicle struck a guardrail and then left the road 0.8 miles up Buck Creek Road at about 10:28 a.m.

Daly said Avon police believe the driver, a 48-year-old man, was alone in the vehicle when he came down the mountain after working at an asphalt construction site about a mile up Buck Creek Road.

“We have the vehicle and will conduct a forensic analysis to determine the cause,” Daly said.

The Upper Buck Creek Road Asphalt Pavement Project Work began last week and includes asphalt milling, repair and resurfacing, guardrail improvements, shoulder leveling and pavement marking. The work is being performed by Grand River Construction Company.

The project includes “intermittent, temporary centerline markings” and “no shoulders will be installed,” according to the City of Avon.

“Motorists should slow down and be careful not to veer off the roadway,” the city added in a May 24 project update.

The project is expected to be completed in early July.
