North Carolina teenager killed by fallen tree

CLAY COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – A western North Carolina community is mourning the loss of a high school student who died in a storm over the weekend.

According to Clay County Emergency Services, emergency crews were called to Penland Point Monday morning because a tree had fallen on a camper trailer.

When emergency responders arrived, they found 18-year-old Kara Bryson dead in the trailer.

According to officials, the tree fell onto the trailer due to strong winds during a storm over the weekend.

Bryson was a cheerleader and a senior at Tuscoloa High School.

Trevor Putnam, superintendent of Haywood County Schools, said in a statement:

“We mourn the loss of one of our most valuable students. Our thoughts are with the family during this very difficult time. Additional support is available for staff and students who need assistance. We will continue to support the needs of our Tuscola family after graduation and beyond.”
