Creator of Attack on Titan promotes new show before debut in America: “Different from the anime”

Last year, attack on Titan Fans in Japan have seen Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert on stage in a vibrant new adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s iconic shonen manga. Now the live-action stage show is coming to New York for its North American premiere.




About Oricon, the showrunners for Attack on Titan: The Musical have announced that the show will be performed for the first time in the United States from October 11-13 at the New York City Center Theater. This high-quality production uses high-tech stage effects as well as “analog theater techniques” to bring the world of attack on Titan to life in a whole new way. According to franchise creator Hajime Isayama, the show also presents a narrative that differs slightly from previous versions, explaining: “The actor’s actions and songs have brought this attack on Titan a new work that is different from both the original and the anime.” Crunchyroll, which attack on Titan Anime series, is currently conducting a ticket presale that is scheduled to end on June 2nd.

Attack on Titan’s Hajime Isayama says a musical is “perfect” for the franchise

In 2023 Attack on Titan: The Musical was officially performed at the Orix Theater in Osaka from January 7 to 9. This was followed by a second, longer performance from January 14 to 24 at Tokyo’s famous Seinenkan Hall. The play was directed by Go Ueki, who adapted the play from an original screenplay by Masafumi Hata (Card Battle!! Vanguard OverDress). Hip-hop artist KEN THE 390 (Akudama ride, Devilman Crybaby) served as music director, while Kaori Miura (Onegai, my melody) wrote the text. The showrunners recently released a brand new trailer that shows several dramatic scenes with main characters of the series. Although the decision to use a dark fantasy like attack on Titan Transforming the play into a musical with choreographed dance sequences may seem strange to some, but Isayama praised the creators for their choice of medium. “When I saw the performance in Tokyo, I was overwhelmed by the power of the stage,” he said. “I thought the musical expression was a perfect fit for the work.”


Most of the original cast returns for the overseas run of the show. Kurumu Okamiya and Sara Takatsuki (Memories of Marnie) reprise their roles as Eren Jaeger and Mikasa Ackerman. Eito Konishi and Ryo Matsuda also reprise their roles as Armin Arlert and Levi Ackerman respectively. Riona Tatemichi (Mobile Suit Gundam 00) plays Hange Zoe. Yu Fukuzawa, who originally played Jean Kirstein, is replaced by Shota Matsuda, who is best known for his portrayal of Shuu Tsukiyama in the live-action series. Tokyo Ghoul Movie, Tokyo Ghoul STomoya Nakanishi, who originally played Connie Springer, is also replaced by Yuri Takahashi in the New York version.

Tickets for the limited New York performance of Attack on Titan: The Musical will be available to the public from June 3. Hajime Isayama’s attack on Titan Manga is available in English from VIZ Media. In addition to Crunchyroll, the attack on Titan Anime series can also be streamed on Hulu.
