Arrest made in connection with Hartford shooting that left two teenagers dead

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that left two people dead in Hartford earlier this month.

James Chaney, 25, of Plainville, was charged with the murder of 16-year-old Aydin Davis, of Bloomfield, and 19-year-old Lavante Brown, of Hartford.

Police said they were called to Hendicxsen Avenue in Hartford around 10:30 p.m. on May 4, where they received several 911 calls about shots fired.

“Officers found two unconscious men with gunshot wounds in the stairwell of the building,” said Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department. “The two victims were transported to Hartford Hospital where they were pronounced dead.”

The Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene Units responded and took over the investigation.

In the course of the investigation, information about the suspect was collected and sufficient suspicion was established, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued charging Chaney with first-degree murder and reckless endangerment.

He was found and taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and Hartford police on Wednesday.

He was held on $1,000,000 bail.
