On Tuesday, the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF) in Northern California, as well as the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force and Quincy Police Department worked together to arrest 55-year-old Tuen Kit Lee.

A jury had previously found Lee guilty of kidnapping and raping a woman in 2005, but he fled during the trial in 2007 before the verdict was announced.

Lee reportedly raped a waitress who worked at his family-owned restaurant after breaking into her home on February 2.and2005.

Investigators said Lee “wore a mask and threatened the victim at knifepoint” before tying her to the bed with zip ties and raping her.

Over an hour later, the victim’s boyfriend finally decided to check on her since he couldn’t reach her. When the boyfriend entered the room, he found her tied to the bed and in distress.

The victim identified Lee by his “bad breath,” which earned him the nickname “Bad Breath Rapist.”

Massachusetts State Police later received a tip from an anonymous caller who said Lee might be in Diablo, California.

To follow up on the anonymous tip, state police contacted U.S. Marshals in Northern California, who were able to confirm that he was indeed in the region. The 16-year search finally ended with Lee’s arrest on Tuesday morning.

“There are violent offenders who believe they can commit crimes without being held accountable for their actions,” said Chief Inspector Sean LoPiccolo, PSWRFTF Deputy Commander. “Tuen Lee was on the run for more than 16 years and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to find and capture him will hopefully bring peace of mind to the victim and her family.”

Lee was arrested by police in Danville and is being held there pending extradition to Massachusetts.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
