Candidate “Huacho” Diaz suffers car accident in Seyé, Yucatán

On Wednesday, May 29, the candidate for governor of Yucatán of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition, Joaquín Huacho Díaz Mena, suffered a car accident near the municipality of Seyé. Through networks, the politician confirmed that he is generally well and that he only suffered a few blows as a result of the accident, but that he had to be hospitalized for a few days.

“After the rally in Chemax and on the way to Mérida, the vehicle I was traveling in had an accident. Unfortunately, some members of my team were injured. Regarding my condition, I inform you that I am fine. I will keep you informed,” wrote the candidate of Morena, PT and the Green Party.

In a second audio message posted on social media, the candidate said he was in good spirits and urged his supporters to vote on June 2.

Huacho was returning from his final campaign tour, which he had carried out in the municipalities of Kanasín, Tizimín, Valladolid and Chemax. On the way back to Mérida, the truck he was traveling in suffered a serious accident.

Both Huacho and his team are currently undergoing medical examinations and it was later announced that he will need to undergo surgery.

In this context, presidential candidate Claudia Sheinbaum reported that she had contacted Huacho and sent him an encouraging message.

“We have been informed that our fellow candidate for governor of Yucatán @huachodiazmena has been in a car accident. I have spoken to him and his family and luckily everyone is fine. Chin up, on June 2nd we will win Yucatán,” Sheinbaum wrote on social media.

This Wednesday is the last day for candidates to campaign politically before the electoral ban comes into force. Huacho had planned events in the city of Mérida and the municipality of Maní, but these have been cancelled.
