Motorcyclist dies after collision with deer in Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE, Ill. (WMBD) – A Chillicothe man has died after allegedly hitting a deer while riding his motorcycle on Saturday.

According to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, 37-year-old Nathan Knop suffered multiple blunt force injuries to the head, causing life-threatening trauma.


Harwood stated that police, fire and emergency medical services were called to the intersection of Benedict Street and Hart Lane in Chillicothe after Knop was found lying next to his bicycle at the intersection after allegedly hitting a deer.

Knop was taken to OSF Health Care Saint Francis Medical Center unconscious and with life-threatening injuries. After aggressive treatment, he was pronounced brain dead at 8:18 p.m. Monday.

The toxicological test is still pending, as required by state law.
