Rape allegation: Accused nabbed for rape at Nepal border | Delhi News

New Delhi: A 20-year-old who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in southwest Delhi’s Delhi Cantt area was nabbed on Tuesday. The suspect, Umesh Thapa, who fled the area after the incident, was taken into custody at the India-Nepal border, a senior police official said. Police received a medical certificate on May 1 about the rape survivor, who was taken to the hospital. Her mother underwent a check-up and found that she was pregnant. “After recording the statements of the minor and her mother, a case was registered under relevant sections of rape under the IPC and the Pocso Act,” said Rohit Meena, DCP (South West). The survivor could not reveal many details of the incident. The suspect’s name is not clear, the DCP said, adding, “Several informants were roped in to collect information about the accused.” It turned out that he had come to the city and had started working as a food vendor in the area where he met the girl. It was also revealed that Thapa had fled to his village in Nepal following the incident. A police team reached the Nepalese border. “Thapa was lured to come to the border where he was caught. “The accused has been remanded in judicial custody,” the DCP added.
