1 dead after vehicle and building collision in Baxter – Brainerd Dispatch

BAXTER – A 60-year-old man died Tuesday, May 28, after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Excelsior Road and Highway 371 in Baxter, causing one of the vehicles to strike a nearby business.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the accident at 5:19 p.m. According to the accident report, a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar and a 2017 Buick Encore were traveling eastbound on Excelsior Road when the Land Rover collided with the Buick.

When the light turned green, the Buick was pushed by the Land Rover into the intersection of Excelsior Road and Highway 371. After the collision, the Buick spun in the intersection and the Land Rover continued into the south ditch and over a curb, eventually coming to a stop after striking Bill’s Gun Shop & Range.

State police said the driver of the Land Rover died at the scene. The driver of the Buick was a 55-year-old woman. Information on their condition was not available Wednesday morning. The names of the drivers were not released by state police Tuesday.

The accident is still under investigation and more information is expected to be released on Thursday, state police reported.

Baxter and Brainerd police departments, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, Brainerd Fire Department and North Memorial Health Ambulance responded to the scene.
