Malayalam film director Omar Lulu has been arrested by Kerala police for allegedly raping an actor, reports news agency PTI reported. Omar became famous when he made the romantic comedy Hello Love (2019), which gained worldwide attention when a clip from one of its songs, “Manikya Malaraya Poovi”, in which actress Priya Prakash Varrier winks, went viral.

Quoting an official from the Ernakulam Rural Police, the news agency reported that an investigation was launched after an FIR was filed against the filmmaker based on a complaint by the survivor, a young actor. After the Kochi City Police Commissioner received the complaint and filed an FIR, the case was transferred to Nedumbassery police station, where the crime allegedly took place. He was charged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (punishment for rape).
