Accident in Bridgewater on Monday evening claims one life

BRIDGEWATER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — According to the New York State Police, one person was killed in a UTV accident in the town of Bridgewater on Monday, May 27.

On Monday around 7:30 p.m., police officers were called to Hardscrabble Road in the Town of Bridgewater. Further investigation revealed that the driver of a UTV – later identified as 38-year-old Eric Ruggles of Cassville – was driving on Hardscrabble Road when it struck a mailbox.


The UTV overturned after hitting a driveway ditch. When police arrived on scene, the UTV was on its driver’s side in a ditch on the east shoulder.

Ruggles was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Bridgewater Fire Department.

The investigation is ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
