Ohio man killed crossing East Broad Street in west Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man died Tuesday night while attempting to cross a major road in far west Columbus.

According to the Columbus Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit, an adult pedestrian attempted to cross West Broad Street in the Galloway Ridge neighborhood of west Columbus. Police said the man crossed the street just east of the Rockbrook Crossing Avenue intersection outside of a marked north-south crosswalk at 9:15 p.m.


At the same time, a Dodge Charger traveling eastbound struck the pedestrian in the second eastbound lane. The impact caused the man to veer off the south side of the road.

A Columbus Fire paramedic team transported the victim, later identified as 42-year-old Michael Waskel, to Doctor’s West Hospital in critical condition. His condition was pronounced zero shortly after arrival at 9:43 p.m.

The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene of the accident and the AIU investigation is ongoing.
