Municipal facilities available for those without electricity

HOUSTON (CW39) – Following Tuesday’s severe storm that caused significant power outages across the city, the Houston Office of Emergency Management is reminding people that city facilities are available for cooling.

Everyone can visit a municipal library, community center or multi-service center during normal business hours to relieve the heat, recharge their devices and rest. Schedules for these facilities are available at the following links:


Those needing transportation to a city facility can contact 3-1-1 to arrange a free ride.

As a reminder, there are disaster recovery centers for those who need assistance following last week’s derecho. These locations are:
