Sean Kingston and his mother arrested for fraud worth millions

Singer Sean Kingston and his mother Janice Turner have been arrested on multiple fraud charges. They are accused of orchestrating a complex scheme that allegedly swindled more than a million dollars in recent months.

According to arrest warrants from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the 34-year-old artist and his 61-year-old mother are charged with conducting an organized conspiracy to commit fraud, grand theft, identity theft and related crimes. The charges include a series of thefts involving money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade and furniture.

From October through March, Kingston and Turner were reportedly involved in fraudulent activities that resulted in the theft of nearly $500,000 in jewelry, over $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from a Cadillac Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank, $86,000 from a custom bedding manufacturer, and additional smaller amounts from other sources.

While the details of these crimes are not fully disclosed in the arrest warrants, they paint a picture of a large-scale and well-coordinated attempt to defraud multiple companies and financial institutions. The defendant’s notoriety has attracted significant media attention and highlighted the seriousness and brazenness of the alleged crimes.

That arrest followed a raid on Kingston’s rented Miami mansion, where local sheriffs took him and his mother into custody. Kingston is currently being held without bail in California, awaiting extradition to Florida. Meanwhile, Turner’s previous fraud conviction from 2005, when she served 16 months in a federal prison for bank fraud, surfaced. This prompted the judge to set her bail at the exorbitant $160,000.

Turner’s attorney, Sam Stark, argued for a more lenient bail amount, stressing that the current charges are not violent and that Turner poses no danger to the community. However, the judge kept the high bail amount and required the defense to prove that the money used for the bail came from a legitimate source.
