Adrian Diaz no longer Seattle police chief?

Rumors are circulating that Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz has lost his job and a press conference has been called for Wednesday afternoon.

A well-informed source in the Seattle Police Department told KTTH’s “The Jason Rantz Show” that’s likely true. A second source with knowledge of the situation says he is no longer serving as police chief.

If true, the departure comes at a time when Diaz and the department are facing numerous complaints and lawsuits alleging sexism, harassment and discrimination. A 27-year veteran of the department sued Diaz for gender and pay discrimination. Four female officers said they faced bullying, sexual harassment and gender discrimination within the department. A third lawsuit alleged retaliation for reporting racial discrimination.

The source said Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell “doesn’t like the drama surrounding Diaz.”

“I know this mayor and his office. I know the mayor is committed to equal rights and equal pay for women as men. I think they are very, very concerned about women in general and don’t like the drama. I don’t want it to come to that (of Diaz being fired),” said the well-informed source at the Seattle Police Department.

The claims of drama appear to be part of a coordinated effort by a small group of disgruntled Seattle employees unhappy with Diaz’s personnel decisions and other policy decisions.

There is no independent confirmation from KTTH’s “Jason Rantz Show” that Diaz will give up the lead role.
