Man accused of pointing a gun at a North Braddock pastor is charged with murder

NEWS THAT OPENED THIS 5:00 NEWS SHOW TONIGHT. The man was caught on video pointing a gun at a pastor who was preaching in the church. SUNDAY is now charged with killing his own cousin. Earlier that day, PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR REPORTER YAZMIN RODRIGUEZ WAS THERE AS POLICE PROVIDE AN UPDATE TONIGHT. SHE COMES TO US LIVE NOW WITH MORE YASMIN. Yes, folks, tonight we’ll learn more about Bernard Polite, the 26-year-old who was charged after he was shown on video trying to shoot a priest in a church Sunday morning. He has now been charged with murder after shooting his cousin Derek Polite. That same morning. ALLEGHENY COUNTY POLICE CONFIRM THAT BERNARD POLITELY SHOT HIS COUSIN DEREK APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS BEFORE HE ARRIVED JESUS’S DWELDING PLACE CHURCH IN NORTH BRADDOCK. SUNDAY MORNING. POLICE SAID DEREK POLITE WAS ONCE shot by BERNARD as he walked up the stairs to the house where both men lived together. Evidence recovered from the crime scene shows that the gun used on Bernard Polite, um, excuse me, the gun used in the shooting of Derek Polite was the same gun he used when he tried to kill Pastor Glen to shoot in Germany. DEREK POLITE WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS HOME ON THE 500 BLOCK OF STOKES AVENUE SUNDAY MORNING. AFTER WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING THE ATTEMPTED SHOOTING AT THE CHURCH, DEREK POLITE’S FAMILY MEMBERS WENT TO HIS APARTMENT AND CHECKED ON HIS WELL-BEING. That’s when they discovered that he had died in his house. There is no indication that there was any disturbance at the residence. Um, we haven’t seen any evidence that there’s been any kind of change. It appears the victim was shot while walking up the stairs from the first floor to the second floor. THE POLICE ALSO SAID AT THIS POINT: THERE IS NO MOTIVE WHY BERNARD POLITELY SHOT HIS COUSIN DEREK. Allegheny County police announced murder charges in connection with the death of Derek Polite, who was found dead Sunday in the home of the man accused of pointing a gun at a pastor in North Braddock. In a story you saw First on 4, a man later identified as 26-year-old Bernard Polite interrupted a church service in North Braddock and pointed a gun at the pastor of Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church on Lobringer Avenue .>>Pastor tells WTAE He’s not mad at the man who pointed the gun at him. Polite, who now faces attempted murder charges, jumped in front of Pastor Glenn Germany on May 5 and pointed a gun. This weapon eventually jammed, and the video shows Germany dodging. After he was taken into custody, a body was found at Polite’s home in the 500 block of Stokes Avenue that evening. >> Body found in shooter’s house Derek Polite was found shot dead with a pointed weapon at the priest.
