One dead, one arrested for suspected capital crime | WKRG.com

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) – In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25, Phenix City Police responded to a fatal shooting at Aces Bar and Grill, 3928 US HWY 80 West. Officers from the patrol division arrived around 1:30 a.m. and found 34-year-old Jacob Sanes, a resident of Smith Station, AL, dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators quickly identified a suspected suspect connected to the shooting. While investigators were still searching the scene, patrol officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling west on US Highway 80. A coordinated operation led to a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of the suspect, Jeffery Aaron Spurlock, known by the nickname “Fruit Loop.”


Spurlock was arrested without incident and charged with felony murder. He is being held in the Russell County Jail.

Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing as they interview witnesses to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting.

The Phenix City Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
