1 dead, 1 injured after house fire in Seymour, Indiana

​Police said Officers Sam Hughes and Joe Fagan found a woman screaming for help and suffering from smoke inhalation when they discovered the burning house while on patrol.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after a house fire in Seymour, Indiana, Monday.

In a social media post, Seymour Police said two of their officers were on routine patrol when they encountered the fire near the intersection of Hancock and Euclid streets.

According to police, officers Sam Hughes and Joe Fagan found a woman calling for help and suffering from smoke inhalation.

They brought them to safety and, according to authorities, tried to rescue another man who was still in the burning building. But the situation inside was too bad and the officers had to leave the building.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and took the woman to Schneck Medical Center, where her condition is currently unknown.

The man, identified as 53-year-old Johnathan White, died at the scene, police said.

The Seymour Fire Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
