Search for missing Kansas City alligator called off

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Days after the search began for an alligator that disappeared from a middle school in NorthlandThe KC Pet Project announced that it was suspending its search on site.

The Department of Animal Control was called to Lakeview Middle School last Thursday after a 14-inch alligator went missing after being brought to the school from a petting zoo. The school was hosting an event to celebrate the end of the school year.

A spokesman for the Park Hill School District described the incident as “wild incident,“This triggered a large-scale search operation in which employees of the animal protection association and the Kansas City fire department also took part.

“These animals are very fast. They can travel great distances very quickly,” Tori Fugate, spokeswoman for the KC Pet Project, said last week.

For safety reasons, the alligator’s mouth was taped shut, raising fears that it might be exposed to predators.
