Colorado police officer arrested, charged with assault and domestic violence

A Colorado police officer was arrested and charged with assault and domestic violence and is now on paid leave.

Officer Matthew Moore, 25, of Idaho Springs, was arrested by Lakewood police on Friday and charged with third-degree assault. He has been on the force for two years, according to his police department.

“On May 24, 2024, ISPD was notified that a current employee, Matthew Moore, was arrested by the Lakewood Police Department for third-degree assault/domestic violence for an off-duty incident. Moore was immediately placed on paid administrative leave per department policy,” the department said in a statement. “An internal investigation has been initiated to review the incident. The City of Idaho Springs will evaluate Moore’s employment with ISPD upon completion of the internal review. At this time, the City will not release any further information until the personnel process is complete.”

A request for an arrest report and further details about the incident was pending Tuesday. Moore’s contact information could not be found in public records. Court records show he is being represented by the public defender and has posted $3,000 bail.

If convicted, Moore would lose his certification as a police officer under Colorado standards and training and would be disqualified from practicing law enforcement in that state.
