The Pasadena Police Department released videos on Tuesday, May 28, of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 13.

Killed in the shooting was Ricardo Guade Andrade, 36, of San Fernando. Authorities say he led officers on a chase and pulled out a gun before he was shot in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle.

The released videos are part of the department’s public information event on the shooting, which is intended to provide transparency and additional information about the incident, police said.

The incident remains under investigation and further facts and evidence may be discovered and verified.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said it conducts thorough criminal and administrative investigations into all shootings involving police officers, including interviewing witnesses and the police officers involved, taking eyewitness testimony and analyzing video and forensic evidence.

Once the criminal investigation into the shooting is complete, it will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

A use-of-force hearing will also be held. Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris will make the final decision on whether the officers involved acted in accordance with department policy.

The incident began at 8:39 p.m. on April 13, when Pasadena police officers made contact with Andrade, who was reportedly in a white pickup truck parked facing the wrong way on Hudson Avenue, a one-way street near Del Mar Boulevard.

While officers continued their investigation, Andrade suddenly sped off and narrowly escaped being hit by a police officer, which led to a chase, according to police.

Andrade was wanted for assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon and led officers on a short chase that ended with him crashing into the front yard of a home on Arden Road.

According to police, Andrade then fled on foot into the residential area and violently entered two occupied houses during his escape.

Using a police blimp, officers found Andrade in the backyard of a property in the 700 block of Oak Knoll Circle.

A police dog was the first to make contact with Andrade, who pulled out a pistol and refused to comply with orders to drop the weapon, leading to the police-involved shooting, police said shortly after the incident.

Andrade suffered gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital despite life-saving efforts by police and paramedics.

According to police, a handgun was seized at the crime scene.
