Man arrested after driving towards Bolder Boulder race track

Boulder police said the man collided with a car in a parking lot and nearly hit a pedestrian before he was arrested.

BOULDER, Colorado – A man was arrested after Boulder police managed to stop him from driving onto the Bolder Boulder race track on Monday.

The driver is also accused of colliding with a car in a parking lot and nearly hitting a woman who was walking while trying to escape police officers.

A Boulder police officer stopped the man shortly after 8:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Whole Foods Market on Pearl Street after receiving reports that someone was “acting odd” near the barriers for the Bolder Boulder race, which was taking place at the time. Witnesses said the man, who was driving a dark-colored Ford Explorer, was wearing a ski mask and disregarded two stop signs.

According to police, the man initially stopped and spoke to the bicycle officer before driving off. As he was leaving the parking lot, the man collided with another car in the parking lot and narrowly missed a woman who was walking.

The man then drove towards the streets used by Bolder Boulder race participants before police managed to stop his vehicle and arrest him.

The police are now searching for the driver of the car that was hit and the woman who was walking nearby.

“We are all very thankful that these two community members appear to be OK despite the incident and that we stopped this man before he could get any closer to the race,” said Acting Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn in a news release. “I am very proud of how quickly our officers protected the community yesterday and I am confident we can find these two individuals.”

Anyone who knows the two victims or has any information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Ed Quayle at [email protected] or 720-564-2078 and reference case reference 24-05068.

The arrested man faces possible charges of hit and run, hit and run, reckless endangerment, obstructing a roadway, driving without a valid license and driving without insurance.
