Suspect arrested in ongoing investigation into double shooting near Cambridge park – Boston 25 News

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – Cambridge police say a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a double shooting in the Donnelly Field area of ​​Cambridge last week.

Yonayvi Cruceta, 23, of Cambridge, was arrested in the city after police investigators identified him as a participant in the shooting that injured both a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both Cambridge residents.

Cambridge Police responded to reports of multiple shots fired at 91 Berkshire Street. Investigators said the defendant was on the basketball court when he was approached by several people and after a brief interaction, gunfire ensued.

During the violent altercation, the accused allegedly fired a firearm and was also shot by one of these individuals, according to police. A 22-year-old female victim was also found on the basketball court, suffering from a gunshot wound that was believed to have been caused by a ricochet bullet fired by one of the unknown individuals.

The victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Cruceta is charged in Cambridge District Court with attempted assault with a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon on school property, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a permit and carrying a firearm without a permit.

Cambridge police do not believe this was a random incident.
