Meridian City Council discusses new camera control center for Meridian Police Department

MERIDIAN, Mississippi (WTOK) – The Meridian City Council discussed several topics during its council meeting Tuesday morning.

One of the topics discussed was the architectural agreement with LPK Architects for the design services of a real-time crime center at the Meridian Police Department.

The Real-Time Crime Center will serve as a control center to monitor the camera systems at the station and other cameras in some areas of the city.

Council Chairman Joseph Norwood explains the decision on this issue.

“Well, today we engaged the architect to select the architect for the real-time crime center. We just didn’t have enough information on what it would cost and how long it would take to plan. So we put it off for a work session so we can actually meet with that architect to get more details, especially on the actual overall process of the design phase and what the next steps are,” Norwood said.

The Council asked the Police Department if a representative from LPK Architects could attend the next work session to answer questions and explain more about the system.

The next working session will take place next Tuesday, June 4.
