Investigation underway after man killed on Katy Freeway by driver who “showed signs of intoxication”

A man changing his tire was killed on the Katy Freeway when he was struck by a driver who police said showed signs of impairment.

The collision occurred at 1:10 a.m. on May 25 on the Katy Freeway near Central Park West Blvd.

Witnesses told police that the victim had stopped his black Kia Sportage on the side of the road to change a tire. As he was putting the flat tire in his trunk, he was struck by a white Lexus RX350.

Shortly afterwards, paramedics arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Lexus, 29-year-old Maggie Anne Louise Webber, remained at the scene after the crash. According to a Houston police news release, she showed signs of intoxication and was taken to the Harris County Joint Processing Center. She was charged with drunken driving, a charge she has been charged with once before, according to police.

HPD says the investigation is still ongoing.
