United Airlines A320 aborts takeoff in Chicago due to engine problem

A United Airlines Airbus A320 aborted its takeoff run due to an engine problem at Chicago O’Hare Airport.

The Airbus A320-232 with registration N432UA was scheduled to operate flight UA2091 from Chicago (ORD) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). However, the crew aborted the takeoff at low speed after thick smoke was visible from the left IAE V2500 engine.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. CDT on runway 28R at ORD. None of the 148 passengers and 5 crew members aboard Seattle-bound flight UA2091 were injured.

According to reports, the plane’s left engine, an International Aero Engines IAE V2527-A5, caught fire during the takeoff roll. Passengers on board reported seeing smoke coming from the engine wing.

Firefighters and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident as a precaution. No injuries were reported among the 148 passengers and 5 crew members on board flight UA2091.

The cause of the engine fire is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). United Airlines has not yet commented on the exact details of the incident, but confirmed that all passengers were able to safely deplane and board another aircraft to continue their journey to Seattle.

This incident caused brief delays to incoming flights at O’Hare Airport.
