Man accused of killing sister, shooting HPD officers outside Kingwood home

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A man has been charged with murdering his sister and shooting at Houston police officers outside his Kingwood home.

Byron Keith Hall, 29, was charged Tuesday with murder, aggravated assault of a family member and aggravated assault of a public servant. He is accused of shooting his sister, Taylor Ben, and then firing his weapons at HPD officers Sunday at their home in the 3700 block of Babbling Creek Drive.

According to HPD, as officers arrived after an assault call at the residence, the suspect began shooting at them. After the officers hid behind their patrol vehicles, the suspect then shot them with an assault rifle from the driveway of the home.

Minutes later, the suspect, later identified as Hall, walked toward officers with his hands in the air and was arrested without incident.

Officers then entered the home and found a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman, later identified as Ben, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children, a 4-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were found hiding in a closet in the house. They are unharmed and placed in the care of family members.

Police said their investigation revealed Hall got into an argument with Ben and was fatally shot. Police also said they believed Hall was experiencing some sort of “mental crisis” because of what he was saying to officers.

Hall is currently incarcerated at the Harris County Jail and his bond hearing is pending.
